Q: Can the Guitar Tech guide be taken into exams?
A: No, you can only take the relevant grade book in to your exam.

Q: Will there be equivalents for Bass, Drums and Keys?
A: RS will look to doing equivalent tech guides for Drums, Keys and Bass in 2012 in line with the new syllabuses.

Q: What will the end result be after I finish each section in the book?
A: After each section you will have knowledge of the scales, arpeggios and chord types at that grade level. This will give you the confidence to go in to your exam and relax, knowing that there won?t be any technical surprises. Having a strong technical base will also inform the rest of your playing, technical knowledge gives you the ammunition to improvise, write your own music and nail your sight reading and ear test.

Q: What do I need to use this book?
A: Guitar in standard tuning, a metronome, the relevant grade book (in order to hear the riff audio and see the rubric for the grade)

Q: I am still a bit nervous about the technical side of the grades, is there any other help I can get?
A: There are Rockschool DVDs for Guitar from Debut to Grade 3. They show the technical exercises being played, have backing tracks for all the pieces and show an exam in action so you know what to expect. Available to buy from musicroom.com
