Music Practitioner

Music Practitioners qualifications are for Learners who want to develop their skills in the core elements of the Music Industry. These fully accredited qualifications are a real alternative for Learners who aren't inspired by GCSE, A-Level and BTEC options.

The qualifications are developed with Access to Music and industry professionals so that they are relevant to the current dynamics of the Music Industry. Music Practitioners qualifications are uniquely designed to have one core unit and an expansive choice of optional units in order to build a practical qualification that is specifically tailored to the Learners strengths.

With Pathways in Performance, Technology, Composition and Business, Learners can gain the full 360° skills required to make it in the Music Industry.

Qualification Type and Availability

Music Practitioners qualifications are offered at centres across the UK. To take a qualification Learners need to enrol with a centre. Some centres do not offer all the Music Practitioners qualifications; we advise that Learners contact their nearest centre for more information.

Pathways

Learners choose one Pathway from the four available (this applies to all Music Practitioners qualifications). For non-instrumentalists the Technology and Business pathways provide a route in to the production, engineering and business sides of the industry.

Depending on the Pathway and unit combination, Learners can potentially learn how to:

Performance

  • Initiate and develop repertoire
  • Develop musicianship skills through using a harmony instrument
  • Use computers, sequencing and recording software/hardware
  • Understand contextual issues relating to music style, audience and the industry

Business

  • Apply business and financial skills
  • Apply marketing skills
  • Understand music contracts
  • Apply media communication skills
  • Understand freelance practice
  • Manage and represent artists
  • Manage events

At each level the Learner has a choice of optional units to build a tailored qualification:

Each centre delivers its own selection of the total units available. Learners should check with their nearest centre to see if it delivers the units they want to take.

Centres

Music Practitioners qualifications are delivered by Schools, Further Education Colleges or Independent Centres. Learners need to enrol on a Music Practitioners qualification with their nearest centre.
