Level 1 Award

The Level 1 Music Practitioners Award is a 12 credit qualification which can be taken in one of four pathways:

  • Business
  • Composition
  • Performance
  • Technology

This qualification is open to Learners of all ages.

Recommended Prior Learning

When a Learner applies for a Level 1 qualification we recommend that centres take in to consideration prior learning. This can be:

  • Related Entry Level or Level 1 qualifications
  • Related musical experience
  • Portfolio of music making activity which will support Level 1 work
  • Rockschool Grades, BTEC Qualifications, GCSEs, VCEs, Key Skills and NVQs

Learners can increase or decrease the size of the qualification (within the same Level) they are undertaking in consultation with their tutors at any point during their course.

The Level 1 Award requires 90 Guided Learning Hours and includes one core unit plus one optional unit. In total the one core unit and the one optional unit should equal a minimum of 12 credits.

Core Units

To build a Level 1 qualification, Learners choose one core unit from their chosen pathway and one optional unit from a choice of twenty-two.

Optional Units

There are twenty-two optional units to choose from at Level 1. Each centre delivers its own selection of the total units available. Learners should check with their nearest centre to see if it delivers the units they want to take.

Assessment is conducted at the centre with external moderation taking place at the end of the assessment period.

Each Learner must produce evidence which demonstrates achievement of the learning outcomes. The type of evidence required is detailed in the syllabus document contained within the Syllabus Pack (60MB, .zip).
