Performance Diplomas
Q. Do I have to play the songs listed in the suggested repertoire list?
A. No. You are able to create your own setlist for your performance. If you have any questions regarding any pieces, please contact diplomas@rockschool.co.uk.
Q. What do I have to do for the promotional material?
A. For the promotional material, candidates need to demonstrate knowledge of how to promote themselves as a performer. This may include programme notes, screenshots from a website promoting the gig (Facebook, MySpace etc.) and posters. This part of the exam needs to illustrate that the candidate understands and appreciates how to get people in to watch the event, and needs to demonstrate this with the promotional material that is produced.
Teaching Diplomas
Q. When can I register?
A. You are able to register at any time for a fee of £50. The deadlines only apply to the submission of Unit 1.
Q. How is the qualification structured?
A. The way that the teaching diploma is structured is to fit in alongside peoples everyday teaching. There are no lengthy essays to write or specific courses to attend with the majority of the qualification being completed via distance learning. The qualification is split in to two units. For the first unit you have to submit lesson plans along with DVD evidence of your teaching in action. Once this is successfully completed you are invited to attend the second unit which is a practical exam where you observe different teaching scenarios, and attend an interview with an examiner.
Q. What level is most suited to me?
A. The Level 4 is for those teachers who are relatively new to teaching and the prerequisite is to have achieved a grade 8 or a Level 3 equivalent. This level is equivalent to the end of the first year of an undergraduate degree. The Level 6 is equivalent to the end of the third year of an undergraduate degree. The prerequisite for the Level 6 is to have at least three years teaching experience and the application needs to be endorsed by a teaching professional that you have worked with, or for.
