The new Edinburgh Guitar & Music Festival will be the largest of its kind to be held in Scotland and will take place from the 25th to 27th May 2013 in the historic Corn Exchange. Aiming to attract participants and visitors from all over the world, there will be an extensive programme of world-class performances, seminars and competitions as well as a trade exhibition. Headline artists announced include Sandi Thom, Jan Akkerman and Donnie Munro

Best yet, we'll be there offering one-off master classes from metal guru, Charlie Griffiths and our bass expert Stuart Clayton. The Rockschool band will also be on hand giving you a performance based workshop plus 10 song set of some of the best tunes from the 2012 Syllabus and hotly anticipated Hot Rock Guitar 4&5.This is your opportunity to get some great new hints and tips and experience some of the best tracks from the 2012 Syllabus live and loud. 

Sat 25th - Metal Techniques Master Class with Charlie Griffiths

Venue: Edinburgh Corn Exchange (Baron Suite) Date: Sat 25th 2013

Rockschool’s rock and metal specialist Charlie Griffiths will be serving up guitar master classes on metal technique and theory, while giving invaluable advice on how to play some of the more challenging Rockschool tunes. 

Graduating from the Guitar Institute in 1995, he was incredibly lucky to study under renowned players such as Hugh Burns, Dave Kilminster, Iain Scott and Shaun Baxter. He now teaches at ICMP in London. As a transcriber and contributor to Total Guitar, Guitarist and Guitar Techniques magazines Charlie has had the opportunity to interview and pick the brains of all his guitar heroes such as Yngwie, Petrucci, Vai and Satch to name but a few. As a session player Charlie has performed with diverse acts such as Gareth Gates, John Cleese and Dave Lombardo of Slayer (although not at the same time). His main love is writing, recording and touring with his progressive rock band Haken.

Sat 25th - Master your Slap Bass Technique with Stuart Clayton

Venue: Edinburgh Corn Exchange (Baron Suite) Date: Sat 25th 2013

Stuart will be running through some of the best bass pieces from the Rockschool 2012 Bass Syllabus. Learn all the specific techniques and theory used in Rockschool’s later grades from this bass master, as well as more in-depth concepts on slap bass.

Stuart Clayton has been working as a professional musician for over ten years. He has been writing for the UK’s Bass Guitar Magazine since its first issue, and has interviewed bassists such as Stuart Hamm, Mark King, and Alain Caron. He has written seven instructional books for Sanctuary Publishing and Music Sales, including 100 Tips for Bass Guitar You Should Have Been Told, Giants of Bass and Bass Styles. Stuart has toured all over the world with legendary drummer Carl Palmer, and currently works as the Head of Bass at BIMM Bristol. Stuart is the bass specialist for Rockschool for whom he writes and records exam pieces including Grade 7 piece ‘Thumb King’. Stuart also writes for and runs Bassline Publishing, a small company specialising in bass guitar tuition and transcription books. He has published transcription books on artists such as Level 42, Chic, Sister Sledge, The Who, The Brand New Heavies, and Kiss. He has authored several books on bass technique including Ultimate Slap Bass, The Bass Player’s Guide to Scales & Modes and Solo Arrangements for Electric Bass.

Sun 26th - Band Master Classes

Venue: Edinburgh Corn Exchange (Baron SuiteDate: Sun 26th 2013

On Sunday the Rockschool band, featuring George Wood (guitar), Becky Baldwin (bass) and Miguel Andrews (drums), will be offering band master classes. The guys will be playing all the best tunes from the 2012 syllabus and exclusively showcasing some of the new tracks from the hotly anticipated Hot Rock Guitar Grade 4 & 5 books. They will be offering hints, tips  and guidance about playing together as a band and learning to work as a group. These high-energy, innovative and interactive master-classes, will give you the opportunity to get to grips with some of the jaw-dropping tracks on the new syllabus and listen to them played live. Plus they’ll be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and meet the band.

The Rockschool band


George is the youngest member of the Rockschool band and is studying for his degree at ICMP. He gigs regularly in two bands & played at last year's Brownstock Festival. George has also appeared in video lessons for Total Guitar Magazine.


A graduate of BIMM Becky plays regularly for several bands including Control The Storm who played at Bloodstock in 2012. She has also contributed to Total Guitar Magazine.


Miguel has been gigging professionally since he was a teenager including tackling a challenging role in an established Police tribute band. He currently plays in four different bands as well as depping for several others.
